Houston, We Have a Title

First, I wanted to direct your attention to my other blog, The Book Unicorn, where Megan Cutler hosted a blog takeover to discuss her fantasy novel, Island of the Lost Forevers. Megan is a fantastic writer and I would highly recommend checking her out!

This summer has been insanely busy for me (and I’m sure many of you can say the same). Between family, vacation, my non-writing job, and editing like crazy, June and July have been a whirlwind. It still doesn’t seem possible that it’s almost August. How did that happen?

Anyway, that’s my long way of apologizing for the lack of communication since April. But, I do want you to know there are exciting things coming soon, which will hopefully make up for any neglect. So without further delay, here’s the latest developments on book two of the Resistance Duology!

The most exciting news is we finally have a title for book two: Rebels and Redemption. This will pick up pretty much right where Royal Thief left off. I won’t go into too much detail, in case some of you haven’t read Royal Thief yet. But I’m pretty excited with how book two is progressing.

And you know what else is exciting? Free books! Who doesn’t love free books? I know I do. From now until Rebels‘ release, I’m offering the chance to receive a free copy of this second book. All you have to do is write a review of Royal Thief on the site of your choice (Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes and Nobel, etc.) and fill out this form so I know you’ve done it. Once the book is released, you’ll be sent a copy in whatever format you prefer. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at laurakehoe4@gmail.com. This applies to anyone who’s already written a review as well!

Well, I think that’s it for now. I’ll let you guys know when I solidify the release date for Rebels and Redemption. Hopefully you’ll be hearing from me again really soon!

Welcome to Read Self Published Month!

Happy April Everyone!

I’m so excited to be participating in Read Self Published Month! Throughout this month, myself along with a bunch of other fantastic authors will be hosting giveaways, blog takeovers, and all sorts of fun things. For more information about this great event, check out the Facebook page.

As part of this event, many of the participating authors are hosting blog takeovers. Yesterday, Zach Chopchinski started things off with an awesome post about his Gabrielle Series (check it out at http://zachchop.com). And today, it’s my turn.

Last November, I finally achieved a dream of mine. I published my first novel, Royal Thief. This story features an evil king, an enterprising thief, and a group of headstrong rebels. You can check out more information, as well as a sneak peek into the first chapter, right here.

I get my inspiration for writing from all sorts of things: books, movies, my own life, people I’ve met…you name it and I’ve probably found some sort of inspiration there. But for this particular book, I can think of two things in particular that had a profound effect on Royal Thief’s development.

First, there’s one of my all-time favorite musicals: Les Miserables. I remember sitting in my room, listening to the soundtrack for the thousandth time, when I got the idea for Amara. And if you’ve seen or listened to Les Mis (or read the book) you probably have a good idea which character inspired Royal Thief’s infamous criminal.

The second inspiration came from a childhood favorite: Eragon, by Christopher Paolini. When I was a kid, my mom got me this book because it had a dragon on it (and anyone who knows me knows my undying love for dragons, even as a little kid). Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it work to have dragons Royal Thief, but the Resistance was inspired by Paolini’s Varden. Ever since I read about them I knew I wanted to include a rebel group in one of my books.

What about you guys? What books/events/whatever have served as inspiration? Answer in the comments below. And be sure to check out the next stop on the Read Self Published Month takeover, K. Ferrin to see what they’re up to! Their website is http://www.kferrin.com

Exciting Announcements

I hope everyone has been having a good March so far. I can’t believe we’re already halfway through the month! It seems like it just started. Although I try not to bombard you all with too many updates, there are a few announcements I wanted you to know about.

First, I’m hosting another giveaway on goodreads. I’m giving away four signed copies of Royal Thief. Entries are open from now until April 12th. Unfortunately, this giveaway is only for people in the US due to the cost of shipping. But I’m trying to make it work to do an international giveaway at some point.

Second, there’s a really exciting even going on through the whole month of April called Read Self-Published Month. I’ll be joining a group of amazing writers to celebrate and promote self-published works. There’ll be giveaways, readalongs, games, and the chance to get to know a bunch of authors/fellow readers. I’ll send updated information as the event gets closer, but for now, feel free to check out the facebook page for more information (right now there isn’t a whole lot on the page yet, but as April gets closer, there will be more posted there). You can also follow me on instagram, facebook, tumblr, twitter, etc. I’m going to try and post updated information on those sites as well.

That’s all for now! I’ve been busy cracking away on the sequel to Royal Thief. Right now the first draft is all finished, but it’ll be at least few more months before the book. Keep an eye out though. I’m planning to release it in late summer.

Have a great day everyone! Thank you for all of your lovely support and encouragement. I couldn’t do this without you.

Still Want to Read Royal Thief?

I’ve made this announcement in a few other places as well, so you might already have heard this. But, for those of you who don’t know, I’m currently giving away ebook copies of Royal Thief to anyone willing to give it an honest review. The book is currently available in epub, mobi, or pdf format. If you’re interested in receiving a free copy of Royal Thief, shoot me an email at laurakehoe4@gmail.com and I’ll send you whichever version you prefer.

Don’t worry if you’re not as familiar with posting reviews. Whether it’s a single sentence, or a whole page, any review will be appreciated. Reviews are so important to book sales, as they often play a role in both the purchasers’s decision to buy a book and whether the booksellers themselves will stock the book. I would be so grateful to anyone who’s willing to do this.

If you have any questions, just let me know!

Also, on a side note, Royal Thief is now in stock online at most major retailers (for a while it was out of stock on Barnes and Noble and Powell’s, but it’s available those places now as well). So if you’ve been holding out for a physical copy, now’s your chance to snag one.

Indie Book Challenge

This past spring, I decided to make it a goal of mine to read more self published books published. Part of the goal stemmed from my own desire to self publish Royal Thief, but it was also a great way to explore new authors and stories. There are so many amazing self published books out there, but unfortunately they don’t always get as much attention as some of the more traditionally published stories. So, this spring, I set a goal for myself to read at least one indie book a month. I wanted to compile a list of all the self published books I’ve read so far: the ones I’ve loved, ones I wasn’t a fan of, and everything in between. This doesn’t include all the independently published books I’ve read because I only started keeping track when I set my monthly goal. And I may have missed some since I started. But, these are definitely good ones to start with.

The Emperor’s Edge by Lindsay Buroker

Updates

For those of you who celebrate a holiday this time of year, I hope it’s gone wonderfully. And for everyone else, I hope you all are having a great end to December!

This month has been absolutely insane for me, as I’m sure many people can relate to. I meant to write a few updates weeks ago, but life just kept getting in the way. So, here they are now:

  1. Thank you to everyone who entered the giveaway for Royal Thief! I was blown away by the amount of support and interest I received. You all are so wonderful!  The giveaway is over now, but keep your eyes open for another one in the future.
  2. I’m diligently working away on the second book. The title will be revealed within the next couple months, so keep your eyes open for it! I will also be in search of a couple new beta readers for the second book. I’ll write another post in a few weeks with more details, but if you’re interested, feel free to shoot me an email and I’ll be sure you get updated.
  3. For anyone who’s interested in a physical copy of Royal Thief: It’s currently listed as sold out on a lot of sites. But don’t worry! You can still purchase a copy. As far as I know, The Book Depository still has copies available. Or, you can order it directly from  the distributor, BookBaby. You can also add it to your wishlist on your preferred site and when they get copies in, they will let you know.

I know I already said it once, but THANK YOU SO MUCH for putting up with me through all this insanity. Royal Thief wouldn’t be where it is today without all of you wonderful people!

Updates

I’m sorry for the overload of updates lately. I promise they will slow down after this!

First off, thank you for putting up with me lately! I know it’s been a whirlwind these past few weeks, and I know things have gotten a little crazy, so I apologize for any confusion. I appreciate all of you guys so incredibly much. Your support has been instrumental in helping to make my dream of publishing a reality. I honestly can’t thank you all enough for everything.

Now, on to some other exciting updates:

  1. Royal Thief is now on Goodreads! If you’re interested, check it out here
  2. The book is also officially up on Barnes and Noble so now it’s available as an ebook on all the major retail sites. I’ll let you all know when the print version is available too.
  3. If you missed it, I do have a giveaway going on. The details are posted in the previous post. Again, feel free to shoot me an email with any questions.
  4. I’m also hosting a giveaway for my tumblr followers, so if you have an account there, feel free to follow me. I’m thinking of doing twitter and instagram giveaways as well sometime, but I’ll probably wait a little while before I do those. But, if you’re interested in following me on instagram or twitter, feel free!

That’s all for now! Again, I promise to try and limit/condense my posts from now on so you all don’t get flooded with updates all the time. I’m still painfully new to all this. 🙂
